Ronald Max Smith
(October 21, 1948 – November 5, 2016)
Ronald M. “Ronnie” Smith of Braman, Oklahoma, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Saturday morning, November 5, 2016, at his home west of Braman at the age of 68 years.
Ronald M. “Ronnie” Smith was born on October 21, 1948, Blackwell, Oklahoma, to Myron and Marie (Bonewell) Smith. He grew up in Blackwell and attended Blackwell Public Schools graduating in 1966. While in high school he was a state champion wrestler in 1965. Following his education he began working for Cities Service Gas Company, later becoming Southern Star. After sharing life together for eight years, he married B. J. Barrows on February 14, 2002, in Miami, Oklahoma, and they made Blackwell their home. He retired in 2006, after thirty-three years of service. Following his retirement he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Ronnie also enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing and traveled to New Mexico each year to head up the camp. While his father was a resident in the nursing home, Ronnie and B. J. spent Thursdays visiting his father and other residents. He was a member of the Victory Church at Blackwell and the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, B. J. Smith of Braman; a son, Dary Smith and wife Kathy of Blackwell; a daughter, Tara Smith of Blackwell; a step-daughter, Tracy Collins of Blackwell; a step-son, Donnie Collins and wife Jill of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, Richard Smith and wife Susan of Blackwell; thirteen grandchildren, Nichole, Michael, Shelby, Hunter, Mark, Madden, Rylee, Kierstin, Destiny, Desperado, Blake, Lila and Lennon; a great grandchild, Graclynn; and an uncle, Curtis Bonewell of Blackwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 8th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Rev. Carolyn Rickner of Victory Church at Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
Casketbearers will be Dary Smith, Donnie Collins, Blake Williams, Desperado Williams, Rylee Max Smith and Madden Smith. Serving as honorary casketbearers will be Richard Smith, Mike Mann, Donnie Pierce, Allen Taylor and Jerry Younger.
A memorial has been established in his honor with the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for COPD research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
