Burnett Thicknail – Veteran

(February 25, 1956 – September 3, 2016)

Burnett Thicknail passed away on September 3, 2016 in Oklahoma City. He was 60 years old. Burnett was born on February 25, 1956 to Josiah Thicknail and Byrdie Sleeper. He attended Garfield Elementary School, East Jr. High School, Ft. Sill Indian School and Chilocco Indian School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He received the Rifle Marksman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.

Burnett was raised in Oklahoma. He lived in Wichita, Kansas and was a long time resident of Topeka, Kansas. In July of this year, he went back home to be with his daughter and grandchildren. As a young man, he enjoyed baseball, running track, and fishing. He liked to joke around and laugh. He loved his family, listening to music, playing pool and loved his honeys.

He is survived by his brother, Joseph Thicknail, daughter, Lueda Elizabeth Thicknail, two nieces, Jocelyn Jackson and Shaloo Thicknail, and 12 grandchildren.

A traditional Ponca Feast will be held at noon at the Ponca Tribal Cultural Center on Tuesday, September 6, 2016. Burial will follow at the Ponca Tribal Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Ray Hinman, Wiley Whitehorn, David Hadley, Sr., Chuck Blueback, Tyreek Jackson, and Keynnan Jackson. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Xyler Loftis, Jason Seward, and Canaan Seward.

Services are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
