Alice Bland
(September 10, 1926 – July 8, 2016)
Alice Louise Bland, 89, of Arkansas City, died July 8, 2016 at South Central Hospital in Arkansas City. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, 200 South 6th Street, in Ponca City, Oklahoma with Reverend Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, in Arkansas City. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory. Family will greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Trout Funeral Home, 505 West Grand Ave. in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Alice was born September 10, 1926, to Opie and Anna (Glascow) Maurey in Luray, Kansas, where she was reared and educated. She graduated from Luray High School in 1944.
On August 1, 1946, she married Don in Ellsworth, Kansas, where the couple made their home. They moved to Arkansas City in 1957. Alice and Don operated Ark City and Cherokee lanes until they moved to Ponca City, Oklahoma, in 1976 where they managed Ponca Bowl until 1985. Alice was also employed at the Cowley County Court House, Penny's, Sears and Titus Manufacturing in Ponca City. She enjoyed listening to music, reading and playing cards. She also cherished her grandchildren, her beloved Kansas Jayhawks and the Methodist Church. After retiring, Alice and Don traveled with a local City group to Canada, New York, Oregon and California.
Survivors include her sons Steven and his wife Colleen of Augusta, Kansas, and their sons Shad Seglem, of Weatherford, Texas, and Tristan, of Lawrence, Kansas; Jon Michael of Arkansas City; and Bruce and Sydney Bland of Arkansas City, and Bruce's children Chelsea, of Nashville, Arkansas, and Ashley Reed, husband Brandon and son Mason of Moore, Oklahoma; and sister Cathy and husband Charles of Austin, Texas.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Don on January 26, 1998; brother Scott; and sisters Carol Jean, Shirley and Joyce.
