Ed Whitfield – Veteran

(February 20, 1938 – June 30, 2016)

Ed Whitfield, age 78, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016.

Friends and family may pay their respects at the funeral home from 1-8 pm Sunday, and 8am-8pm Tuesday. The family will greet friends at the funeral home from 6-7pm on Tuesday. A graveside ceremony with U.S. Army honors will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the Resthaven Memorial Park with Chaplain Brian Warfield officiating. Casket bearers will be his grandsons. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Ed was born on February 20,1938 to Stella (Roebuck) Whitfield and Harvey Zeno Whitfield in Hamilton, NC. After high school, the US Army utilized him for service during the Korean Conflict. He married Joy Allen (Culver) on November 11, 1960 in Norfolk, Virginia. Early in his working career, Ed sold life insurance, one year as the top selling agent in Oklahoma for Metropolitan Life. However, his true passion was construction. He brought integrity to his projects and his customers knew they weren’t being cheated because he was an honest man and always true to his word. Ed loved meeting new friends, taking every opportunity to chat up people nearby. As a Christian, he embodied the virtue of being a cheerful giver. If it was possible, Ed would give anything to help anyone along the way. Ed was a member of the Osage Heights Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher for years.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Joy, of the home, children: Eddie Whitfield and wife Jardene of Ponca City, Joy Renee Powelson and husband Jim of Ponca City, Dana Shelton and husband Brad of Ponca City, Theresa "Terry" Camp of Cleveland, Ohio, siblings; Janie Foster and husband Garland of North Carolina, Shirley Oglesby and husband Calvin of Oak City, N.C, Eugene Whitfield of Oak City, N.C. , Jeffrey Whitfield and wife Susan of Hamilton, N.C.; grandchildren: Brett Whitfield, Cody Whitfield, Raini Whitfield, Jason Whitfield, Jessica Jinkens, Derrick Napier, Clayton Shelton, Mackenzie Shelton, Noah Shelton, Ashley Fields, Amanda Aguilar, Arren Thibault, and Brandon Koonce, 22 great grandchildren and special family friend Brandon Koonce.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; grandson Timothy Adam Camp, and son-in-law Timothy B. Camp.
