Fay Kirk-Champ
(December 5, 1926 – June 17, 2016)
Fay Nell Mitchell Kirk Champ, a resident of Ponca City, OK passed away Friday June 17, 2016 at the age of 89. A graveside service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City, OK with Chaplain Mike Sweetman officiating. Casket bearers will be her grandsons: Chris Woods, Darin Delaney, Kevin Reusser, Trey Turner, Gavin Turner and Cale Woods.
Fay was born December 5, 1926 in Fyffe, AL to Vernon N. and Lela Belle Gravitt Mitchell. Her family moved to Fairfax, OK when Fay was a teenager. She sang hymns with her dad and sister Geneva on radio station WBBZ. During World War II she worked in the Conoco refinery cleaning and painting the oil barrels. At this time she met Clifford N. Kirk. They were married in 1945. They both owned and operated a restaurant at the Marland Y. Fay later became a full time homemaker caring for her family. Fay was an excellent cook, and baker. She was especially known for her chicken and noodles and dressing. She also was an accomplished seamstress. Fay loved gardening, canning and going to the beauty shop once a week.
Fay later married Glenn Champ and resided in Goddard and Arkansas City, KS.
Fay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford Kirk and Glen Champ, one sister Geneva Estes and one granddaughter Tina Kirk.
Fay is survived by two daughters, Peggy Delany and Husband Bill and Phillis Criner both of Ponca City, a son Tony Kirk of Norman, OK also five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, one brother and three sisters.
The family would like to thank the staff at Ponca City Nursing and Rehab Center for the excellent care she received, also a special care giver Susan.
