Betty Matson
(April 22, 1930 – May 9, 2016)
Betty Ann Matson, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, May 9, 2016. She was 86.
The service will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Doyle Sharp and Rev. Robert Montgomery officiating. Care of the family is under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Betty was born on April 22, 1930 to William Perry and Gladys Rayne Blanton in Altus, OK. She graduated with a BS in Education at the University of Oklahoma. Upon graduation, Betty was married to Ted P. Matson on August 19, 1951 in Clinton, Oklahoma and moved to Ponca City where they have resided since. Betty taught at Roosevelt for six years and then Woodlands School for twenty two years and retired in 1989.
Betty was a member of the University of Oklahoma Alpha Phi Sorority, Rufette (lil Sis to the OU Ruf/Neks), PEO, 20th Century Club, Se Fi Class at St. Paul’s, Stephen Ministry, Meals on Wheels, Sooner Club, OU Tip Off Club, and an avid SOONER Fan forever. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in 1951 and moved their membership to St.Pauls shortly after the charter of the church.
Betty loved to travel all over with Ted. Some of her favorite destinations were Hawaii, Colorado and wherever her grandchildren were. Betty’s biggest joy was the love of her three boys and her ten grandchildren. She would jump for joy at the sight of her grandchildren asking, "What’s going on?" She always commented on how handsome and pretty they were, even pretty to the boys as well. Betty is survived by husband, Ted, sons, Bill and his wife Tess from Saipan, Mariana Islands, children P.W, Robin, Morgan, Ciaralyn, and Betty, Bob from Nashville, Tennessee and his children, Will and Stuart, Brad from Ponca City, his best friend Paula from Trenton, Nebraska and their children, Griffith, Emma, and Chase.
Betty was preceded in death by her father, William Blanton, mother, Gladys Blanton from Clinton, Oklahoma.
