Obituary for Rachel Taylor

Rachel J. Roth Taylor

(November 6, 1932 – April 26, 2016)

Rachel J. Taylor died peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the age of 83.

A rosary will be held at 7:00 pm at the Trout Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel on Friday, April 29, 2016.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ponca City. The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Anthony B. Taylor, son of the deceased. Following the Mass, she will be laid to rest at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Rachel was born November 6, 1932 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio the daughter of Emil and Cecilia Roth. Early childhood was in Buffalo, New York and Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1942 the family moved to Fort Worth, Texas.

Rachel attended Our Lady of Victory High School where she was a cheerleader. Upon graduation she attended TCU and graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor Degree in Home Economics. During her college years she was very active in the Catholic Youth Organization as Secretary and Social coordinator. In 1952 she was chosen Princess of the Mardi Gras.

Rachel married Basil H. Taylor in 1953 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Fort Worth, Texas. They have been blessed with seven children and six spouses: Anthony Taylor, Michael and Lynn Taylor, Joseph and Lynnice Taylor, Paul and Suzy Taylor, Mary and David Gamble, Leo and Melissa Taylor, Rosie and Blake Woodard.

Sixteen Grandchildren came along and now fourteen Great Grandchildren.

In 1960 the family moved to Ponca City. She quickly became an Okie. And more quickly fell in love with Ponca City.

Rachel served as a volunteer at the hospital for 40 years.

She served on the Parish Council for St. Mary Parish.

Rachel joined St. Francis Guild at St. Mary Parish and was very active over 25 years with Bereavement Luncheons and the annual St. Patrick’s Day Salad Luncheon, acting as Co-Chairman.

Rachel enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. And more so, the friendships acquired over some 60 years of playing in three bridge clubs.

Rachel is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband Basil and Family as well as her sister Rose Marie Fischer.
