Jean Anne Scott

(April 29, 1949 – April 20, 2016)

Jean Anne Crisp Scott, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. She was 66.

The Mass of Christian Burial service will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, April 25, 2016 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Kevin Ratterman officiating. A wake service will be held on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at Trout Funeral Home Chapel at 7:00 pm. Burial will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Jean Anne was born on April 29, 1949 to Melvin and Lenora (Dennison) Crisp in Wichita, KS. She attended St. Mary’s grade school, West Jr. High School and Ponca City High School, graduating in 1967. She married the love of her life, Melvin L. Scott, on September 1, 1973 in Ponca City, OK.

She spent many years of her adult life as the office manger for Mel Crisp Construction, but many remember her as the office manager/bookkeeper at American Legion Huff-Minor Post 14 where she worked for the 14 years prior to her retirement. She and Melvin were members of the local Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge. She was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where throughout the years she volunteered on various committees and the Church Women United.

She will always be remembered for her infectious laugh. She was full of life and always ready for an adventure. Her greatest joy was her family. She and Melvin spent many weekends camping with their children and extended family, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors. But her best known hobby was cooking. She was "famous" for her homemade chicken and noodles and many other specialty dishes. She loved to cook huge meals for her children and grand children where they would gather at her and Melvin’s home. There was always room at the table and plenty of food for any drop-by guests. A favorite family Christmas gift was a cookbook that she and Melvin presented with all the favorite recipes they had cooked throughout the years. Recently, she was absolutely thrilled that she had the opportunity to hold and love on her new great-granddaughter. It was with great anticipation that she joined her love, Melvin, in heaven.

She is survived by daughter, Annette Newcomb and husband Michael of Ponca City, OK; son, David Scott and wife Angie of Ponca City, OK; daughter, Gina Cruz and husband Billy of Edmond, OK; sister, Josephine Lewis and her husband Ronnie of Yukon, OK; sister-in-law, Bertalene Richardson of Marlow, OK; brother-in-law Wayne Scott and wife Charlene of Odessa, TX; brother-in-law Lyndell Shoemaker of Kechi, KS; sister-in-law Penny Hart of South Fork, CO. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Christopher Newcomb of Amarillo, Tx; Brad and Madelin Newcomb of Ponca City, OK; Torrie Scott of Ponca City, OK; Hunter, Landen and Libby Scott of Ponca City, OK; Tylor Cruz of Camarillo, CA; Cameron Cruz of Tulsa, OK; Ginger Riccardi of Edmond, OK; Jacqueline Scott of Jacksonville Beach, FL; and Daniel Scott of New Smyrna, FL. She is also survived by four great-granddaughters: Maci Jo Thomas of Ponca City, OK; Levi, Jayci and Harli Cruz of Camarillo, CA as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; parents; parents-in-law Bert and Lola Scott; son, Melvin L. Scott II; sister, Judy Enyart; brother, Mel Crisp, Jr.; brother-in-law, Bruce Scott; sister-in-law Peachie Shoemaker; brother-in-law Gene Richardon.

Casketbearers will be Hunter Scott, Landen Scott, Chris Newcomb, Lance Crisp, Darren Sloan and Jerry Berhens. Brad Newcomb will be the service organist and Maddie Newcomb will be soloist.

The family will gather in the evenings at the Scott home at 300 N. 14th St. in Ponca City.
