Jane Archette Johnson
(June 11, 1932 – March 31, 2016)
Jane W. Johnson, age 83, passed away at the Colorado Lutheran Home in Arvada, CO, around 3AM on Thursday, March 31st, 2016.
She was born to Archie and Lora Wilkinson, on June 11, 1932, in Ponca City, OK. Jane was a lifelong resident of Ponca City, graduating from Ponca City High School in 1950. While in school, she was a cheerleader, member of the Glee Club and Mixed Chorus, and was named Best Citizen, and later organized many class reunions for the class of 1950. After high school, she attended the University of Oklahoma where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1954, and was a member of Kappa Theta Social Sorority.
Jane married Charles A. Johnson on August 22, 1954, and they had two children, Michael D. Johnson, and L. Jill Johnson Brennan. Jane began teaching Spanish at Ponca City High School in 1964, and later returned as a substitute Spanish teacher. She also worked for Bartlett Travel Agency and for Charles Hollar’s Equitable Life Assurance Agency.
Jane was a huge OU fan, she loved her Sooners. She was a charter member of P.E.O. Chapter FC, AAUW, an honorary member of 4 o’clock Garden Club, and lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, singing in their choir since she was 5 years old. As an avid tennis fan, Jane played regularly and served on the Ponca City Country Club’s Tennis Association Board, for many years. Jane’s other passion was playing bridge with her friends. Jane was also a wonderful cook and hostess. She was always kind, thoughtful, and a friend to many.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents Lora and Archie Wilkinson, her brother Robert Wilkinson and his wife Althea, son in-law W. Jerry Brennan and son Michael D. Johnson.
Jane is survived by her daughter Jill, five grandchildren, two greatgrandchildren, two nieces, four nephews, and many lifelong friends.
Friends may pay their respects from 4-8PM Saturday and from 1-8PM Sunday at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory. A funeral ceremony is scheduled for Monday, March 11, 2016 at 2 o’clock in the afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church in Ponca City, with the Reverend Robert Montgomery, officiating. Following the ceremony she will be laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
