Mary Oberlender

(October 17, 1933 – February 23, 2016)

Mary Alice Oberlender formerly of Blackwell, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Via Christi Village in Ponca City, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years.

Mary Alice Oberlender was born on October 17, 1933 in Waynoka, Oklahoma, to Arthur Leonard and Gladys Viola (Hammond) Paige. Mary grew up in Waynoka before moving to Missouri with her family where she attended school.

Mary married Harold Gene Oberlender on February 7, 1957, in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Mary spent many of her years working in retail settings, where she could enjoy interacting with people. Mary worked for Braum’s and Harvey’s in Blackwell, as well as JC Penny, Wal-Mart, and Goody’s in Ponca City.

Mary was extremely creative and could often times be found learning a new crafting skill. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and knitting. After her husband passed away, Mary took up painting lessons. Much of her artwork hangs in her children’s homes. She loved creating flower arrangements for both of her daughters’ weddings, as well as cooking cinnamon rolls for local schools. Mary is most known for being a prayer warrior and has made a difference in many lives. She had a great sense of humor, and inspired others right up until her death.

Mary is survived by her two daughters, Kelly Hemby and husband John of Tulsa, Sarah Stover and husband Doug of Ponca City; three sons, Steve Margerum and wife Sara of Plano, Texas, Rick Oberlender and wife Lynn of Tulsa, and Brett Oberlender of Ponca City; her sister, Betty Caudillo and husband Jesse of Blackwell. Mary is also survived by eight grandchildren, Rachel Stover of Ponca City, Hannah Rowlett and husband Jake of Ponca City, Sabrina Oberlender, Caleb Oberlender and Renae Oberlender, all of Tulsa, Heather Easley of Plano, Texas, Eric Margerum and wife Deborah of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Kyle Margerum of Bartlesville; and three great grandchildren, Ryann Easley of Plano, Texas, and Ethan and Payton Margerum of Colorado Springs, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,Harold Gene Oberlender; and her siblings, Aline Hopkins, Aletha Davinski, Nina Hays, Ethel Keck, Bobby Paige, Melvin Paige and Donnie Paige.

Services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Friday, February 26th in the First Assembly of God Church in Ponca City with Rev. Micah Wells officiating. Burial will take place in the Blackwell Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her honor with the 700 club in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
