Marvin Bell

(November 3, 1933 – February 7, 2016)

Marvin Earl Bell passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016, at Ponca City Nursing and Rehab after a long battle with dementia. He was 82.

Bell was born to Marvin McFarlin and Opal Dial Richardson in Wynnewood on Nov. 3, 1933. Later he was adopted by Cecil and Sally Bell and lived in Ponca City. He attended McCord schools, East Junior High and graduated Ponca City High School in 1953. At age 16 Bell started working as a brick mason with his adopted father. He later went to work for various masonry companies including local businesses Welch Masonry, and Wright Masonry, Star Masonry in Kansas and later retired from Advanced Masonry in Enid. He received a lifetime award for 50 years of service in the brick mason profession. Bell was a member of the Bricklayers International Union No. 5 of Oklahoma City.

Bell married Janelle Sue Griggs on July 10, 1954. The couple had three children, Brenda Sue Bodenstien, Marvin Anthony Bell, and Stuart Wayne Bell. They divorced in 1965 and he married Shirley Ann Harris on April 21, 1972. The couple resided in Ponca City.

Bell is preceded in death by both sets of parents; a brother, Melvin; and a sister, Betty.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; a sister, Virginia Morrow, Oklahoma City; and a brother, Willie Richardson, Edmond. Also, a stepdaughter, Brenda Smith and husband, Marty, stepson, John Miller and wife, Maggie, all of Ponca City. Also, grandsons, Joel Rouse, Leland, N.C., and Jason Rouse, Trenten Miller, and Jurne Miller, all of Ponca City. Great-grandchildren are: Kyle Rouse, Leland, N.C., Lindsey Rouse, Blake Rouse and Audrey Rouse, all of Ponca City. Also, his three children, Brenda Sue Bodenstien, Marvin Anthony Bell, and Stuart Wayne Bell.

Marvin was a soft spoken easy going guy who enjoyed helping others and reading a good western book.

Viewing will be Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Trout Funeral Home. Family members will be present 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. There will be no service. A private burial will take place at Resthaven Cemetery.
