Ted Rhodes
(June 25, 1921 – December 25, 2015)
Ted Rhodes of Tyler, Texas, passed away on December 25, 2015. He was born June 25, 1921, in Weeping Water, Nebraska. He has lived in Tyler, Texas, since 1981. He was an active member of Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler where he served on several committees and was a member of the Administrative Board. He was a member of the Friendly Bible Class and served as President and Historian. He was also a member of the Wednesday Men’s Luncheon Group and enjoyed volunteering with several Tyler charities.
Ted served in the U. S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star and French Croix de Guerre. After the war, he graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in accounting. He retired from Conoco Phillips after 30 years in the Insurance Division, the last 19 years as Manager.
Ted is survived by his wife, Violet Jane Rhodes; daughter, Janet Blum; son, Greg Rhodes and his wife Kathy; three grandchildren, Jill Kilford, Jason Blum, and Elisa Blum; six great-grandchildren; three step-children, Jane Smith and her husband Ted, Joyce Maya and her husband Aquiles, and Bruce Fekete and his wife Susan; ten step-grandchildren and six step- great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. Ted was predeceased by his first wife, Evelyn Vogelsberg Rhodes.
A memorial services will be held at Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler, Texas at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. He will be laid to rest privately at Resthaven Memorial Park, Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Honorary pallbearers are members of the Friendly Bible Class and the Wednesday Men’s Luncheon Group. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Salvation Army or charity of your choice.
