Gene Putt

Clyde Eugene "Gene" Putt, age 82, resident of Edmond, OK, formerly of Ponca City, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2015, in Edmond, OK.
Private family services have been held. He has been laid to rest at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Gene was born on July 5, 1933 to Clyde Bolen Putt and Helen Paulean Putt in Ponca City, OK. He was raised in Tonkawa, OK, graduating from high school there. Zola Marie Hutchinson became his wife on June 4, 1955 in Ponca City and they have celebrated 60 years of marriage. Early in adulthood, Gene showed his passion for serving his fellow man. In 1953, he enlisted with the U.S. Army, after his active duty military service, he signed on with the USPS where he spent the rest of his career in the civil service. Immediately upon his return from his honeymoon, in June of 1955, Gene started at the Ponca City Post office where he worked his way up to supervisor, then Superintendent of Mail. Postmaster became Gene’s official title in 1975, when he moved to Nowata, OK to serve, and then returned to Blackwell in 1978 to serve as the Postmaster there. Later, he came back to Ponca City and was the Officer in Charge of the Ponca City Post office from Jan. through Sept. of 1988 before his retirement in January of 1989. Gene loved the outdoors. When he was able, hunting, fishing, camping, and golf were how he enjoyed his time. Playing cards and BINGO became enjoyed past times as he aged. Gene was an antique collector and would hunt all of the sales he could, looking for those unique finds, especially 101 Ranch memorabilia. Gene had been a member of the Rotary Club, American Legion, National Rifle Association, and the National Association of Federal Employees. He was also an Honorary Director of the 101 Ranch Collectors. Gene would serve wherever he could within the United Methodist Church congregations he attended. To those who knew him they would say he always put others first.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Zola Putt of Edmond, OK, son, Kevin Putt and his wife Lisa of Oklahoma City, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents.
