Melvin was born on May 23, 1942 to Bert and Lola (Hemphill) Scott in Tryon, OK. He attended Tryon grade school before his family moved to Marlow, OK. He graduated from Marlow High School where he played on the 1960 State Championship football team with his brother Wayne and many lifelong friends. He later attended Cameron Jr. College where his football team was National Champions, and then OSU. He was married to the love of his life Jean Anne Crisp on September 1, 1973 in Ponca City, OK.
He spent most of his adult life working as a pipe fitter, welder or superintendent for Mel Crisp Construction, through the Pipe Fitters Local 430 until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the local Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, and Masonic Lodge.
Melvin’s greatest joy was his close family and friends. He and Jean Anne loved to camp with their children and extended family several weekends ever summer. Throughout the years you could find him golfing, fishing and backyard grilling with the family. He took great pride in serving his delicious grilled steaks and burgers, and he was thrilled when his "secret" ham recipe was featured in Ponca City News. He will always be remembered for his outrageous sense of humor and gift to make people laugh. But most of all, his children and grandchildren will think about him and his amazing faith for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He happily became a member of St. Mary’s Church in 1982. In his words, "Go through life with your head held high. Never bow your head, except to our Lord."
