Obituary for Betty Scott

Betty Lea Scott, formerly of Blackwell, died Saturday, August 1, 2015, in Mustang, Oklahoma, at the age of 89 years.

Betty Lea Scott was born on April 11, 1926, in Alva, Oklahoma, to Clay and Maggie (Dimmick) Evans. She graduated from Waggoner High School as a member of the class of 1943. She married Edward Scott on April 3, 1943, in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, by the minister who had officiated the marriage of her parents thirty five years earlier. After her husband’s return in 1946 from serving overseas, they established their home in Blackwell. Betty worked at the Hazel-Atlas Glass Plant, City Drug, and later for Prince ‘N Princess where she worked for thirteen years. Her husband preceded her in death on December 1, 2003, and she continued to make Blackwell her home. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a long-time member of the Friendship Sunday School Class. After moving to Mustang, Oklahoma, in June of 2002, she became an associate member of the Mustang United Methodist Church and joined the Builders’ Sunday School Class. She was a life-time member of the United Methodist Women and gave of her time by serving on numerous church committees and helping with the church newsletter. She also served several years as a board member of the Blackwell Associated Charities and was a life-time member of the Top of Oklahoma Historical Society. Betty loved to crochet and shared her creations with many friends and family.

She is survived by a daughter, Deborah Pemberton and husband Alvin of Yukon, Oklahoma; three step-grandsons, Aaron Neely, Sean Neely and David Pemberton; a step-granddaughter, Andrea Pemberton; a foster granddaughter, Kimberly Monroe; great grandchildren, Taylor Olson and Joshua Olson; step- great grandchildren, Matt Neely, Nocona Neely, Sophia Neely and Corbin Cowan; and a great great grandson, Braxton Wade Olson.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Dustin Olsen; three sisters; and two brothers.

Services are scheduled for 2:30 p.m., Thursday, August 6th in the Roberts and Son Funeral Home Chapel in Blackwell with Rev. Cap McIlnay of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her honor with Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for heart research in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
