Obituary for Stanton Wellington

Stanton Roy ”Leroy” Wellington, of Choctaw, OK, passed away unexpectedly from complications associated with stomach cancer on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the age of 41.
Stan was born on November 21, 1973 in Oklahoma City, OK to Greg and Linda Wellington. He graduated from Ponca City High School in 1992. He immediately joined the US Navy and served our country for the next 9 years, where he earned several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Southwest Asia Service Medal. After active duty, he continued to work for the armed forces in Jacksonville, FL, Altus, OK and finally, Midwest City, OK until the time of his death.
Stan was an incredibly intelligent and thoughtful man whose hobbies and interests were as diverse as he was. He was the founding member and President of the Jacksonville chapter of the Silverbacks Riding Club for many years, where he was known as ”Clutch”. He was also a very active member of BACA (Bikers Against Child Abuse) and the Special Olympics. In addition to his passion for motorcycles, he had an equally strong passion for cars. Specifically, his Camaro which was customized and detailed to his specifications and honored his Naval background. He also liked to build models. However, his most important interest was his children, Cameron and Meghan. He was a proud father and always worked their names into any conversation he would have. Stan will always be remembered for his witty sense of humor and fun loving personality. He was known to be quite the jokester by his friends and family.
Stan is survived by his parents, Harold and Linda Krout of Ponca City, OK; his son, Cameron Wellington of St. Augustine, FL; his daughter, Meghan Wellington of St. Augustine, FL; his grandmother, Madelyn Wellington of Jamestown, NY; his sisters, June Reeves of Glencoe, OK, Cari Ryan of Glencoe, OK, Tana Morgan of Ponca City, OK, Crystal Avila of Alva, OK, Mari Desilva of Tulsa, OK, Holly Wellington of Miami, FL; his brothers, Mike Krout of Glencoe, OK, Mark Wellington of Port Arthur, TX. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other friends. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Ellen Riley of Chickasha, OK, Roy Wellington of Jamestown, NY, Howard and Alice Krout of Glencoe, OK.
A remembrance service is scheduled for July 25, 2015 at 10:00AM at Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City, OK. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Stan’s life. A full military honors ceremony will be held at a later time at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in Winfield, KS where part of his ashes will be buried. The remaining ashes will be taken to Florida by his children to be scattered at sea.
