Obituary for Viola Harrington

Viola E. Shaffer Harrington, resident of Ponca City, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the Ponca City Nursing and Rehab Center. She was 102.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00AM on Friday, July 17, 2015 at the Liberal Cemetery in Liberal, KS. Cremation was are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Viola was born on January 8, 1913 to Thomas Snyder and Lulu May (Johnston) Snyder in Lorena, OK. She graduated from Turpin High School in 1931, later attending the nursing school at Epworth Hospital in Liberal. She was married to Raymond Shaffer in 1933. They resided on the farm in Turpin until his death in 1957. She worked as a bookkeeper for Ideal Grocery in Liberal, Kansas during that time. She married Harold Harrington in 1969. Viola and Harold lived in Liberal, Kansas until his retirement, then moved to Jasper, Texas. Harold died in 1985. Then she moved to Ponca City to be with her daughter and husband in 2012. Viola enjoyed traveling, sewing, her grandchildren, and playing cards. She was inducted into the Centenarian Club of Oklahoma in March of 2015.
Survivors include her daughter Barbara Carson and her husband Derell of Ponca City, OK, Three grandchildren, Carol Carson of Farmington, NM, Susan Carson of Boynton Beach, Fl, and Janell Curry and husband Mike of Overland Park, KS, eight great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, two nephews, and five nieces.
Preceding her in death were her parents, both husbands, two brothers, three sisters, one nephew, and three nieces.
