Obituary for Ann Boersma

Ann Rosalie Boersma, formerly of Blackwell, died Friday morning, May 29, 2015, in the Primrose Retirement Center in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 years.
Ann Rosalie Boersma was born on August 11, 1928, in Canton, Oklahoma. As a young girl she lived in various communities in Oklahoma, Kansas, and Illinois before settling in Blackwell where she graduated from Blackwell High School in 1946. She furthered her education by attending Northern Oklahoma Junior College in Tonkawa for one year. She married John Andrew Boersma on October 26, 1947, in Blackwell and they made Blackwell their home where she assisted her husband with the J. K. Boersma Beverage Company. During her children’s formative years she served as a Cub Scout den mother and a Campfire leader. Her husband preceded her in death on February 25, 2010, and she continued to make Blackwell her home until 2014, when she moved to Stillwater. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Blackwell and served the church as a deacon. She enjoyed crocheting, china painting, and playing and listening to music.
She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Reese and husband Richard of Nardin; two sons, Drew Boersma and wife Julie of Stillwater and Kirk Boersma and wife Dana of Blackwell; six grandchildren, Jennifer Brock and husband Bennett of Blackwell, Matthew Reese and wife Jessica of Jenks, Oklahoma, Jay Boersma and wife Tana of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Emily Boersma and husband Baylie Damtie of Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, Brad Boersma and wife Mauralee of Stillwater, and Laura Boersma of Boulder, Colorado; and nine great grandchildren, Jesse, Ainsley and Jack Boersma of Fountain Hills, Arizona, Lucy Boersma of Stillwater, Elani and Elias Damtie of Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, Nixon and Duram Reese of Jenks, and Lena Brock of Blackwell.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Norma Haynes and Bonnie Prosser; and a great grandson, Connor Matthew Reese.
Graveside services are scheduled for Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in the Blackwell Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her honor with You Go Girls, a charitable organization for the education of young women in Ethiopia, in c/o Roberts and Son Funeral Home, 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, Oklahoma 74631.
