Obituary for Gordon Roy

Gordon E. Roy, former resident of Ponca City area, passed Tuesday, May 5, 2015 in Oklahoma City. He was 78 years of age.
Gordon was born March 31, 1937 at White Eagle, the son of Mitchell Roy Sr. and Rosa Primeaux – Motah. He attended Ponca City High School and graduated from Chilocco Indian School then attended Minot State College, North Dakota. He served his country in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Ponca Indian Methodist Church, Oklahoma City Pow-wow Club, American Legion Post 38 and the Ponca Hethuska. His enjoyments were dancing at pow-wows and teasing and joking with others. Gordon was always saying he had a good day when he could make at least one person laugh.
He is survived by his companion Sharon Harrison; his children Don Roy and Tammy, of Oklahoma City, Pearl Roy and Chester Mandan of Stillwater, Mike Roy and Nita, of Shawnee, and adopted son Monty Harris of Shawnee; two brothers, Gaylon Motah and Melanie of Lawton and Tracy Roy and Barbara of Oklahoma City; one sister, Francelia Roy of Oklahoma City; 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three children, James Roy, Delray Roy and Robert Roy; siblings Clarabelle Roughface, Rodney Roy, Spencer Roy and Mitchell Roy Jr.
Prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015 at the Ponca Tribal Cultural Center. A noon meal will be served on Friday, May 8, 2015 also at the Cultural Center followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. Rev. Jimmy White of the Ponca Indian Methodist Church will preside. Interment will be in the Ponca Tribal Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers are Michael Dahlen, Justin Yearby, Jasper Clark, Otto Hamilton, Randy Frazier and J.R. Lonelodge.
