Our beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt, Betty Eveline Walker Case, passed away April 24 at the Oklahoma City Heart Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Betty was born January 2, 1930 in Enid. She was the second of two daughters of Theodore and Gladys Walker. While Betty was still an infant, her family moved to Billings. In 1940, her parents bought a farm south of Tonkawa, where Betty spent the rest of her girlhood.
Betty graduated from Marland High School in 1947 where she was valedictorian of her class. She was also captain of her high school basketball team and was named an All Tournament Guard.
After graduation, Betty accepted a job at Continental Oil Company in the accounting department. Later in 1947, she married her childhood sweetheart, Calvin T. Case Jr. , in Ponca City. They had three children. Calvin preceded her in death.
In 1964, the family moved to Lawton where Betty began studying at Cameron College. They moved to Houston in 1969 before moving back to Ponca City in 1976. In 1983, Betty and Calvin moved to Garden City, Kansas. A natural athlete, Betty began attending Garden City Junior college on a tennis scholarship. At that time, she was 53. After Calvin retired, they returned to Ponca City where they eventually built a home on Kyme.
The couple traveled extensively, visiting Egypt, Singapore, China, Israel, Indonesia, and Thailand. For their 50th wedding anniversary they treated their children and grandchildren to a vacation in Cancun, Mexico. At age 74, Betty went snow skiing with all her grandchildren in Utah. She celebrated her 80th birthday with a cruise to Mexico with her extended family.
Betty was a devout Christian and founding member of Woodlands Christian Church. Known for her outgoing, warm personality, she enjoyed playing Bridge and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
Betty is survived by her three children: Brenda Case Scheer (David), Nancy Case (Larry Marsh), and Tracy Case (Kim); her six grandchildren: Casey Raim (Jarret), Carrie Scheer, Alec Perkins, Taylor Perkins, Danny Case, and Jenny Case; and her great-grandson, Logan Raim.
The service is at Woodlands Christian Church at 10 am on Tuesday. Donations in her honor may be made to the Church.
