Obituary for George Clark

George C. Clark, age 84, long-time Ponca City resident, passed away December 3, 2014 following a short illness.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2014 in the Chapel at Trout Funeral Home & Crematory with Rev. Robert Montgomery of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
George was born June 26, 1930 to Richard Edwin Clark and Ada Marie Kline Clark in Battle Creek, Michigan. He was raised in Battle Creek and graduated high school there in 1948. He continued his education at the University of Michigan, ultimately earning his PhD in Chemical Engineering in 1960.
He was employed in the Production Research Department of Conoco, Inc. for 35 years, retiring as a Senior Research Fellow in 1993. George was an innovator at the forefront of the computer age. Shortly after beginning his employment with Conoco he worked with a team in the purchase and development of Conoco’s first computer in the late 1950’s. He enjoyed working with the computers to develop technology used in modeling reservoirs. He was also always willing to help his fellow employees with computers and their application without regard for who received credit for any accomplishment.
George was an avid bridge player. He was a Life Master Player and a leader of the Ponca City Duplicate Bridge Club for many years. He was also an avid reader, devouring books and other reading material-especially those relating to scientific and financial subject matter.
Survivors include his brother, Charles Clark and wife Joan of Ponca City; nephew, Jim Clark and companion Deborah Salzberg of Columbia, South Carolina; niece Cathy Bonnesen and husband Doug of Wichita, Kansas: nephew Richard Clark and wife Holly of Murphy, Texas; nieces Cheryl Clark of Cleveland, Tennessee and Renee Brewer of Pittsboro, North Carolina: as well as other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Edwin Clark.
