Obituary for Melvin Baker

Melvin Dean Baker, resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2014, at Ponca City Medical Center. He was 78.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, December 2, 2014 Wednesday at the Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Don Stanton, officiating. Burial will then follow at the Resthaven Memorial Park in Ponca City,OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Melvin was born on September 5, 1936 to Leonard Allen Baker and Perney (Wertz) Baker in Dayton, IA. He was raised in Dayton, IA. He was married to Lavada Sue Baker on March 16, 1978. He entered the United States Army in June of 1954 and retired as a Master Sergeant in October of 1974. While in the military service to his country, Mel was awarded the National Homeland Security Service Medal in 2002 and also the Military Emergency Management Specialist Ribbon in 2003.
He is survived by his wife Sue Baker of the home; children Craig Baker & family of Hillsboro Oregon, Belinda Sager of Autry, Texas, Jack Robison of Tulsa OK and Janna and Tim Dancey of Ponca City OK. Mel is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. One surviving brother Merlin Baker of Fort Dodge, IA.
