Obituary for Amsden “Mo” Mothes

Amsden "Mo" Mothes, mountain man, pioneer, businessman, and adored husband of Janice Goodno Mothes, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 1, 2014, at his home.

Amsden was the son of Juanita and Kirk Mothes and was born August 25, 1944. Along with his sister Mahala, The Mothes lived on the family farm in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Mo continued to enjoy this home his entire life. Mo was a Ponca City graduate- Class of 1962. On September 7, 1968 Mo married the light and love of his life Janice Goodno. Mo and Jany shared every life experience a couple shares. Uniquely they nurtured, loved, and educated multiple generations of children. Uncle Mo was a legend to all of these off spring. Always larger than life, Mo did everything to the best of his ability.

Mo enjoyed restoring and refurbishing classic autos. He turned this passion into a successful business and ran Newkirk Body and Paint for 47 years. He was a proud member of the Schooner Car Club. An avid outdoorsman, Mo loved hunting, fishing, and all things of nature. A more patriotic man never drew a breath. As Mo never failed to remember our service men in his prayers, Mo served in the 45th National Guard.

Services are being held 10:00 am, Thursday, June 5, at First Christian Church in Newkirk. Burial will follow at the Newkirk Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home and Crematory.

Mo leaves his wife of 45 years Janice Mothes, his sister Mahala (Mame) Mothes Smith, Brother-in-law Charlie Goodno, and family- Justin and Lyndy Goodno-Mecklenburg and sons, Mason, Maddox, Matthew. Amy Goodno Fisher and sons Logan, Landon and Chuck Goodno. The Scores of children, friends, and neighbors Mo inveigled, shaped and influenced is un-measurable. He will never be forgotten, as his stories and life lessons will presevere. Good men must die, but death cannot kill their name.
