Obituary for Dolton Rogers

Dolton Wilburn Rogers of Blackwell, Oklahoma, died Thursday, May 22, 2014, in the Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home in Blackwell at the age of 85 years.
Dolton Wilburn Rogers was born on July 11, 1928, in Henryetta, Oklahoma, to Joel Leander and Nancy Beulah (MaGee) Rogers. He grew up in various communities including Oilton, Wetumpka and Stillwater and graduated from Stillwater High School in 1946. He furthered his education by attending Oklahoma State University and Northern Oklahoma College. Following his education he moved to Blackwell and in 1953 he began working for Arkla Gas Company where he met Esther Marie Barr and they were married on March 5, 1954, in Blackwell. He continued working for the gas company and retired as the measurement supervisor for southern Kansas, Oklahoma and northern Texas in 1985. His wife preceded him in death on August 16, 2008, and he continued to make Blackwell his home. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and lawn care and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Clark of Blackwell; his son, Russell Rogers of Blackwell; three grandchildren, Kelli Rogers of Kaw City, Oklahoma, Cole Rogers of Blackwell and Sean Clark of Blackwell; two great grandchildren, Kendyn and Skylen Rogers of Blackwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Dennis Rogers; and five brothers, Shelby, Edwin, Otis, Delmer and Gerald Rogers.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 29th in the First United Methodist Church in Blackwell with Rev. Pam Cottrill officiating. Burial will follow in the Blackwell Cemetery.
The Friendship Sunday School Class will serve as honorary casketbearers.
