Obituary for Wanda Cummings

Wanda Lee Cummings, resident of Ponca City, OK, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Ponca City Medical Center. She was 90.
The Mass of Christian Burial service will be held at 10:00 am, on Friday, May 16, 2014 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Richard Beckman and Deacon Dick Robinson, officiating. Burial will then follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ponca City, OK. A rosary service will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 7:00 pm at Trout Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Dick Robinson, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.
Wanda was born on February 18, 1924 in Oklahoma City. After moving to Ponca City as a child, Wanda graduated from Ponca City High School with the class of 1942. She continued her education at Oklahoma Agricultural and Mechanical College, now Oklahoma State University, and graduated with an associate’s degree in secretarial service in 1946.
On June 11, 1949, Wanda married Francis Dale Cummings in a ceremony at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Their union lasted 51 years. until Francis’ death on June 27, 2000 just two weeks after their 51st wedding anniversary. Wanda worked at Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa as secretary to the president. She worked at the Ponca City airport during WWII. She later went to work at Conoco working for Continental Pipeline, international geophysical and other departments until retirement in 1984.
Her love of travel has taken her to every continent, including Australia and Antarctica, as well as several locations in Africa. One of her great joys of travel was riding elephants, which she accomplished in multiple countries. She enjoyed shopping and creating silk flower arrangements. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
She is survived by her children; Stephen Cummings and wife Christine of Owasso; David Cummings and wife Deanna of Ponca City; Ann Perryman of Oklahoma City; Kurt Cummings and wife Mary Lou of Highlands Ranch, CO; and Janet Schmitz and husband Paul, of Broken Arrow. Wanda’s grandchildren are Makenzie Cummings of Ponca City; Kyle Cummings of Highlands Ranch, CO; Elizabeth Cummings Wakefield and husband Loren, of Owasso; Jenny Perryman Davis and husband Dustin of Yukon, Cassandra Cummings Coleman and husband Josh of Ponca City; Rachel Perryman Johnson and husband Lane of Box Elder, SD; and Adam, Brandon, Cameron and Drake Schmitz of Broken Arrow. Her great-grandchildren are Ryen and James Wakefield, Kate Davis; Rebekah, Hannah, Alexandra and Isaac Coleman; Elise, Lydia and Owen Lane Johnson.
She is preceded in death by her husband and parents. Casketbearers will be Dustin Davis, Loren Wakefield, Jim Stingley, Paul Brown, Larry Bittman, and Baloo Subramaniam.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Mary’s School Endowment Fund, 415 S. 7th, Ponca City, OK 74601. The family will greet friends at 2205 Kyme, Ponca City.
