Obituary for Norma Hoyle

Norma Jean Hoyle, long-time resident of Ponca City, passed away on February 13, 2014, at her residence in Henderson, NV. She was 87.
Norma was born in Blackwell, OK, to Catherine Barbara Stearmer-Higgins and Clyde Lorenzo Higgins on October 6, 1926.
Norma attended school in Shidler, OK, and graduated from Shidler High School in 1944. She then attended Draughon Business College in Tulsa, OK.
She married U.S. Army Corporal Dwight Travis Shields of Won, TX, and they had one son, David. Dwight died in an automobile accident in 1947.
Norma began work at Continental Oil Co. (Conoco-Phillips) in 1947 and worked in accounting positions until her retirement with 40 years of service. She volunteered regularly at the Ponca City Regional Medical Center for over 30 years. She played the piano for the First Christian Church of Shidler from 1946 to 1958 and was a member of the First Christian Church of Ponca City. Her favorite hobby was playing cards with friends.
Norma is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Gale Higgins; and her husband of 21 years, J. Wallace Hoyle, who passed away on June 6, 2007.
She is survived by her son, Dr. David R. Shields and wife, Linda, of Henderson, NV; grandson, Christopher Randall Shields, and granddaughter, Heather René Shields, both of Camarillo, CA.
Final arrangements are pending with the Trout Funeral Home & Crematory in Ponca City. A graveside service will be conducted by Reverend E. Roberta Shaffer at the Blackwell Cemetery, where Norma will be laid to rest alongside her parents.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Auxiliary Volunteers at Ponca City Regional Medical Center.
