Obituary for Victor Webb

Victor (Vic) Homer Webb, age 95, long- time resident of Ponca City passed away on Thursday , January 30, 2014, at Via Christi Village of Ponca City after a short illness.
Vic was born August 3, 1918, in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He was the son of D.D. and Lula Dale (Baker ) Webb. He attended Ponca City public schools graduating from Ponca City High School in 1937.
He came to Ponca City with his family at the age of 5. He worked for Webber Wholesale Co. for 21 years and Continental Oil Co. (Conoco) retiring after 23 years. He also worked part time at Ponca Floral Co. in the garden shop.
He served his country during WWII by joining the Navy in 1942. He attended training at the Great Lakes Naval Yard in Chicago, IL and studied diesel mechanics at the University of Missouri in Colombia, MO. He was then assigned to the South Pacific Theater serving on the minesweeper USS UMS94. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
He married Donna Mae Hall December 16, 1949 at the First Christian Church in Ponca City. They were married 46 years and raised 3 children.
Victor was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was an avid sports enthusiast loving all sports. Earlier in life he participated in football, basketball, softball and golf. He enjoyed watching and attending high school and college sporting events especially wrestling. After retirement he enjoyed attending wrestling matches with his friends at Oklahoma State and traveling to National Wrestling Tournaments. He enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling in his RV with his family. He was very knowledgeable of the history of Ponca City and loved sharing with others. He loved being outdoors working in his shop, yard and vegetable garden.
Victor is survived by 2 children, son Charles (Chuck) Webb and wife Kristin of Ponca City, and daughter Vicki Webb of Houston, Texas. Grand-daughter Traci McHenry and husband Steve, great-grandson Luke of Ponca City. Grand-daughter Valerie Fisher and husband Jared, great-granddaughters Karly and Lindy of Ponca City.
He was preceded in death by his wife Donna, son Michael, two brothers and four sisters. Casket bearers will be Jared Fisher, Steve McHenry, Caden Riseling and Chuck Webb. Honorary casket bearers Don McKay, Harold Fisher, Don Richardson and Ed O’Neill.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Feb. 1, at Trout Funeral Home Chapel, 505 W. Gran d Avenue, Ponca City, with the Reverend Tom Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ponca City. The family will be at the home of Chuck Webb, 301 N. 13th, Ponca City. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, Ponca City.
