The Ponca City Board of Education recognized the Ponca City High School Student Council for earning the Gold Chapter Award of Excellence. Student Council president, John Neisen presented the award to Senior High School Principal, Kent Marshall at the November Board of Education meeting.
Oklahoma Association of Student Councils presents this prestigious award to councils that are active on the local, state and national level. Recognized councils must have a certain number and type of projects. Including but not limited to projects that involve the student body and benefit the community. Councils must also have a project that incorporates cooperation with another school.
Po-Hi Student Council sponsor Betsy Easley said this isn’t the councils first year to receive the award.
“Po-Hi has been receiving the Gold Chapter Award of Excellence for many years,” Easley said. “We have won it every year for the last 17 years. This year, we were only one of four schools in our district to be recognized. This award can be directly attributed to the officers and representatives of our council. Meeting rigorous requirements of the award would not be possible without the continuous hard work and commitment the council has from its members, and the support it enjoys from the administration and staff at Po-Hi.”
