The Frontier Wind Farm that is located east of Blackwell is looking to expand further east towards Newkirk and Kildare with a second phase called Frontier Farm 2. Not all Newkirk residents are happy with the expansion as citizens fear with wind turbines being on the outside of town, could decrease property values and hamper community growth for decades. The first Frontier Wind Farm began in 2013 and started its operation in 2016 when the second phase was planned.
