The Oklahoma Main Street Center announced on March 1 the finalist’s of the program’s annual statewide awards competition, which included the Newkirk Main Street organization. All finalists will be honored, and the winners are to be announced May 7 at the 30th Annual Main Street Awards Banquet at the Embassy Suites Downtown/Medical Center Hotel in Oklahoma City.
Newkirk Main Street Submitted 11 award nominations to the competition representing the “four points” approach of Main Street – organization, promotion, economic vitality and design. Newkirk placed in the top three in categories, leaving them open for top state honors. All nominations are in the organization point, with the City of Newkirk being nominated as a premiere partner. With a long-standing relationship for support between Newkirk Main Street and the city, the nomination was almost effortless.
One of the Newkirk Main Street events recognized was the popular Children’s Christmas Shop which was nominated for Best Volunteer Development Program. The event is geared towards helping children find gifts for their families.
