Oklahoma Special Olympics expected to draw 5,000 athletes

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) – The Special Olympics Oklahoma Summer Games are set to begin at Oklahoma State University.
The competition will take place Wednesday through Friday with more than 5,000 athletes expected to take part in nine sports.
The events include track and field, bocce, bowling, golf, horseshoes, powerlifting, 3-on-3 basketball and softball. There will also be events for motor activities and Stars of the Future.
Hall of Fame Avenue just north of Boone Pickens Stadium will serve as the Olympic Village.
Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Ponca City’s Okie Dream Team left with a police escort at 9 a.m. Wednesday down 14th Street on the way to Stillwater.
