Kaw Pow Wow this weekend

Ponca City Now - August 3, 2016 8:48 am

The Kaw Pow Wow is Friday through Sunday at the Kaw tribal pow wow grounds, a half mile east of the Washungah Bay entrance on Kaw Lake.

Many Kaw tribal members from around the country, as well as members of other Native American tribes gather to share dancing, music and fellowship. Non-Native American visitors are also welcome and can enjoy watching the dance competitions.

Friday evening activities will start with gourd dancing at 6:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday afternoon sessions start at 2 p.m. and are largely dedicated to special dances and giveaways requested by individuals or groups.

In addition to the dancing, there will be plenty to see, do, and eat. A complimentary meal will be served on Saturday evening at approximately 5:30 p.m.

Additionally, food vendors will provide treats for every taste, while arts and craft booths will cater to many shopping tastes.

All events are free and open to the public. No alcohol is allowed.
