FAIRMONT, Okla. (AP) – Federal and state authorities are investigating after two people were killed in a plane crash in Garfield County.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the collision happened Thursday around 7 p.m. at a private field near Fairmont.
Both the pilot, 55-year-old Randall Lee Harris of Owasso, and the passenger, 25-year-old 1st Lt. Dale Bryan Shillington of Vance Air Force Base in Enid, were killed.
An initial patrol report says the victims' single-engine aircraft was flying southbound when it attempted an acrobatic maneuver, lost control and collided with the ground.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash and said Saturday that both men were using restraints equipped aboard the aircraft.
