A 61-year-old Pawnee man was injured in an accident at 7:18 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 177 at the intersection of Oakland Avenue, one mile south of Ponca City.
James Gaines, 61, was riding a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle which collided with a 2010 Honda Civic driven by a 17-year-old girl of Ponca City. She was not injured.
Gaines was transported by Ponca City ambulance to Ponca City Alliance Health Hospital, where he was transferred by Air Evac helicopter to St. John's Hospital in Tulsa. He was admitted in critical condition with head, arm, leg and trunk injuries.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported the Civic was stopped at a stop sign eastbound on Oakland Avenue, intending to enter the intersection to turn north on U.S. 177. The patrol said the motorcycle was southbound on U.S. 177.
The Civic started from the stop sign, entering the intersection, where the motorcycle struck the car.
The Highway Patrol said it is still investigating contributing factors in the accident.
