OSBI opens investigation of Carter County sheriff

ARDMORE, Okla. (AP) – The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says it's opening an investigation into allegations that an employee of the Carter County Sheriff's Office had a sexual relationship with an inmate.

The OSBI said Wednesday it was opening the investigation at the request of the Carter County District Attorney's Office. District Attorney Craig Ladd did not immediately return a telephone call seeking comment.

Last month, Oklahoma's multicounty grand jury recommended that 65-year-old Carter County Sheriff Milton Anthony be removed from office following his arrest for receiving a bribe. Anthony is accused of soliciting sexual favors from an employee in exchange for hiring the woman's husband. Anthony's attorney says he denies the allegation.

The OSBI says the employee's husband was hired shortly after sexual contact started, and that it continued for several months.
