TAFT, Oklahoma –

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents are investigating after eight people are shot at an outdoor festival in Taft on Saturday.

The shooting took place at a Memorial Day celebration at the Old City Square with 1,500 people in attendance. It was the first time the event has been held in two years due to covid-19 restrictions.

At this time there is one deceased and 7 injured including 2 juveniles.

Witnesses say just after midnight there was an argument and then gunfire erupted. Witnesses told officers they heard at least 40 shots fired. The Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office was in attendance at the event and immediately rendered aid to the victims.

There are no suspects in custody.

The Memorial Day parade in Taft, a celebration that’s been held since 1970, will still be held on Monday afternoon but without vendors.
