7 Oklahoma museums receive $479,000 in grants

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Seven Oklahoma museums have received more than $479,000 in grants from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
The grants will support museum projects at the Gilcrease Museum, the Bartlesville Area History Museum, the Kaw Nation, the Muscogee Creek Nation, the Tonkawa Tribe, the United Keetoowah Cherokee Council and the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, which received two grants.
The grants are among 263 made in 2014 by the institute that total more than $30 million. Museums use the funds to support learning experiences, engage community members, make collections more accessible and safeguard the state’s cultural and scientific heritage represented by the collections.
The Washington, D.C.-based Institute of Museum and Library Services is the primary source of federal support for the nation’s 123,000 libraries and 35,000 museums.
