55 year old 101 Wild West Rodeo tradition continues

Ponca City Now - June 13, 2014 7:37 am

The Rodeo kicked off last night, but that is just the beginning of what’s to come. A long Rodeo tradition is the 101 Wild West Rodeo parade. Echo Blanton said this is the 55th annual parade.

“We’ve chosen just to keep that history alive, just by doing the free parade entry for individuals that want to enter our parade,” Blanton said.

As usual the parade will walk down Grand Avenue. Line-up starts are 9 a.m. and the walk will begin at 10 on Saturday. Blanton said they had some fun entries.

“We of course always have the parade Marshall, who everyone wonders who that is at the last minute," Blanton said. "We have some representatives, like congressman, state representatives ect. We do have the Shriners, which kids always love the Shriners. Then we will have horses, and that type of thing at the back of the parade.”

No need to wait until last minute, the Grand Marshall is Steve Peresko of Davis Moore Auto Group. After the Peresko family leads the parade, the Kids Rodeo will open. The Kids Rodeo is a 15 year old tradition that the library hosts on their grounds, where community businesses come together and hosts rodeo themed games for children. The state Rodeo Queens, 101 Rodeo Queen and 101 Rodeo Queen contestants will also be signing autographs at this event. It will begin directly following the parade and remain open until noon.
