3 men vie to replace Oklahoma City’s longest serving mayor
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Three men are vying to replace Oklahoma City’s longest-serving mayor and take the helm of the state’s capital city.
Republican state Sen. David Holt, Democrat Randall Smith, and independent Taylor Neighbors all filed candidacy paperwork by this week’s deadline to seek the nonpartisan post that pays $24,000 per year. Longtime Mayor Mick Cornett is stepping down after 13 years and running for the Republican nomination for governor.
The Oklahoman reports Holt has raised more than $360,000 for his campaign through Sept. 30. Neither Smith nor Neighbors have filed paperwork indicating they have raised money for the race.
The 38-year-old Holt is an attorney and former chief of staff for Mayor Cornett. Smith is 58 and a resident of southwest Oklahoma City, while Neighbors is 21 and lives in northwest Oklahoma City.
