The Ponca City High School Alumni Hall of Fame Committee has announced plans to postpone the 2021 induction ceremony that was scheduled for Sept. 30, 2021, to a later date.

Allen Hardesty of the committee said the decision was a difficult one. “This is certainly a postponement and not a cancellation,” he said. “It’s too early to reschedule the ceremony so we will have to continue to watch the pandemic and react to its presence in Ponca City and our area.”

This year’s inductees, Debra Harden Rue, Patty McGraw Coatney, Carole Suggs Bender, James McNeese, Forrest Mertz, and Don Mertz, will be inducted at a later date. “We look forward to the induction of these well-deserving Ponca City High School graduates and hope this viral situation goes away soon.”

Hardesty said tickets already purchased for the banquet will still be good to use at the rescheduled event. “If someone wants a refund, you are welcome to contact Brenda Storie at the School Administration office at 613 East Grand or call 580-767-8000.”

“Our committee decided to cancel this event because of the possible position we might put someone in during the banquet and ceremony related to the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Hardesty. “We will reschedule the event as soon as it is safe for us all to get together.”
