TULSA, Okla. (AP) – Tulsa police say the death last month of a 2-year-old girl who had been left with a young family member while the child’s mother left the house will be classified as a homicide.

Police Sergeant Dave Walker says the girl’s death was the city’s 33rd for the year. A drive-by shooting on Friday that killed a 16-year-old girl was the 34th.

Police say the 2-year-old was left in the care of a 13-year-old family member on June 26 while the child’s mother left the home. Police say the 13-year-old eventually discovered the child unresponsive and left the house to get help.

The mother has been charged with child neglect and was still in jail Sunday on a $50,000 bond. There was no attorney information listed in jail records for her.
